WA’s work health and safety (WHS) laws are being modernised to be more consistent with the rest of Australia. The new laws are largely based on the national model Work Health and Safety Act.Changes to the laws also mean that there will only be one Act for workplace safety and health across most WA industries.
The Act will be supported by three sets of industry specific regulations to suit WA’s unique conditions.
WA’s work health and safety legislation is not expected to come into force until January 2022. This means that the current occupational, mines safety and petroleum safety legislation still applies.
